Positive Behavior Supports : Encouraging Students to Take Responsibilty for their Own Behavior
Children can learn self-discipline, responsibility,
cooperation, problem solving, and respect for
themselves and others. When teachers use
punishment and reward with the intention of
gaining obediance, students learn to be obedient
in the presence of authority . Punishment works
temporarily. Children need to learn to think and
make their own decisions because of natural
consequences. Children can learn to accept what
is appropriate and beneficial and to respectfully
address what is inappropriate and disrespectful.
